Dear all you dear friends around our little planet,

From this shortest and darkest night in our hemisphere, I send you my best greetings for a happy New Year. Thanks to all of you out there for being there and giving me and everybody else courage and belief in that a turning of our civilization is possible.

On the day when the Nobel prize and Right Livelihood (this time from the Swedish parliament!) award was handed over, I sat listening to the different speeches and interviews. It was all very encouraging. The head of the climate panel, IPCC (an India who got it with Al Gore) said that what the world now needed most was a model town of say 10.000 which could demonstrate all the ways in which a sustainable future can be created and the synergy arising from putting all elements together. So may be that will be our next goal? And we may start imagining and teaching how this can be done? And that may be the way it can happen: from below by the people of the world.

Ross and I got a copy of a two hour DVD from Japan in Japanese made by a Japanese film crew in Sept. They have 40 mil viewers and will resend it as the interest has been great. A beautiful and very natural actress was visiting places: Copenhagen- showing all the bikes and how it works with borrowing bikes for free and even taking them on the train. A lot of windmills were constantly in the picture. Showing and visiting Danish furniture and how they are made. And then ecovillages: Svanholm and Dyssekilde. And an interview with Ross and me( which is why we got the DVD) The last was Samsoe, green Island- how they have reached 100% selfsufficiency with renewable energy. ( As it was in Japanese I am not quite sure of the numbers here but that is their goal). Ecovillages are influencing the mainstream. It was beautifully filmed. We have asked them if an English version will be possible.

The third good news from us is that Ross is discussing with a publisher in the US who is interested in his’ and Helena Norberg- Hodge’s new book on global economics.

Last of all we and our families are in good health and gratefull. All my love Hildur
